Momentum grows as International Mercado and Welcome Center nears completion

Enthusiasm grows as we prepare for the opening of the Mexicantown International Welcome Center and Mercado. The dream is finally becoming a reality! The buildings are near completion, and we’re accepting lease applications for many of the shops and small businesses that will soon fill the buildings. We will finally be able to move into our new home.

We’re pleased to report that our hard work has not gone unrecognized. This past year Mexicantown Economic Development Corporation was awarded the CDAD Outstanding Leadership Award. The award was presented for MCDC’s efforts in the development of the Mercado and Welcome Center. We received an Urban Design Award from the American Institute of Architects Chicago Chapter. In October MCDC President Maria Elena Rodriguez received the Community Leader of the Year award from the Latina Pioneer Summit. She also received the Rainbow Push: Detroit Bureau Freedom’s Symphony Award for Community Economic Development. We’re grateful to our supporters.
